Your Vote Counts

MSN offers three ways to vote for your favorite Rocker online. You can also vote via text message (SMS). You may submit your vote by:

  • Visiting the official Rock Star: Supernova web site (rockstar.msn.com) when voting is open
  • Using Windows Live Messenger and clicking on the Rock Star: Supernova tab
  • Sending your vote via text message to the numbers given on the show

General

How many times can I vote?
You can vote as many times as you would like when voting is open for your time zone. Voting will be limited to conventional means of voting, procedures will be in place to monitor the voting and Production reserves all rights including, without limitation, the right to discount blocks of votes identified as cast using automated or unfair means.

Can I change my vote?
No. Once you have submitted your vote, you cannot change the vote. However, you can always vote again for another Rocker.

Who can vote / Can I vote if I am outside the United States?
Voting for Rock Star: Supernova is available to residents of the United States (including the District of Columbia), Canada, Brazil, Ecuador, Columbia, Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Australia, Singapore, Philippines, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Iceland and New Zealand. Please see below for your regions various voting methods.


How long can I vote / When can I vote?
You can vote after the show ends for up to four hours per time zone, subject to time zone and broadcast feed limitations. Some regions may view Rock Star: Supernova via satellite or a method that differs from the standard broadcast feed times; therefore, voting windows may not begin immediately following the show. In Asia, you can only vote after the morning airing of the show, and in Iceland, you can only vote after the late night broadcast, not the prime time repeat airings. If you have problems casting your vote and need more information on when your area should vote, please send an e-mail message with full details of your location, what time you view the show and how you tried voting to rockstarsupernova@msn.com. What are the numbers to vote via text message?
The text message numbers to vote will not be posted on this site. The relevant numbers for each country will be given on the show itself. We want to ensure that, wherever possible, viewers see the weekly performances before voting, and to do that you must see the show itself.

How much does it cost to vote?
Voting here on rockstar.msn.com or via Windows Live Messenger is free except for any dial-up or Internet access charges you may incur. Please refer to your country below for text message and red-button charges


When / How do I find out the results?
The results of which Rocker gets eliminated each week is revealed on the weekly results show. The results and other exclusive information about the show will be available here on rockstar.msn.com.

Why is the full vote information not revealed so we know how the Rockers are doing?
Specific details of the weekly voting will not be made public. This secrecy is for the benefit of the show and to build up excitement each week. We do not want the public vote to be unfairly influenced in favor of or against any one Rocker because of the knowledge of how the public voted in previous weeks; therefore, this information will remain confidential.

If there is no limit to how many times you can vote, can the vote be unfairly influenced?
We encourage you to show your support and enthusiasm for rockers by voting as many times as you like using conventional means of voting. Voting shall be limited to conventional means of voting, procedures will be in place to monitor the voting and we reserve all rights including, without limitation, the right to discount blocks of votes identified as cast using automated or unfair means.

Web Site Voting

What browsers and operating systems are supported?
Rock Star: Supernova voting will be supported on Internet Explorer 5.5. and higher for PCs and Internet Explorer 5.1 and Safari 1.0 and higher for Macs.

Do I need a .NET Passport account to vote?
No. When voting through the official Rock Star: Supernova web site, you will not be required to enter any personal information or sign-in with a .NET Passport account to vote.

Why am I being asked to match scrambled letters and numbers from a picture?
You must type the numbers and letters you see in the picture to confirm that a person is trying to access the page, rather than an automated program. This helps keep automated programs from casting fraudulent votes or misusing the system, for example, to send many votes for a single rocker. In most cases, automated voting programs cannot recognize letters and numbers in the picture.

How do I vote again?
To vote again, you must go back to the Rock Star: Supernova home page at rockstar.msn.com and go through the entire voting process. Note: If you click the 'Back' button in the browser from the vote confirmation page, and then redo the Human Interactive Proof (HIP) challenge, your vote will not be counted. You must start from the beginning for your votes to be counted.

Why do I see a page that says "Sorry. Voting is closed"?
The voting system will open for voters depending on their time zone. It is possible that voting is not yet open or has already closed for your time zone. You can vote after the show ends for four hours per time zone except in some parts of Australia. I received a "Your vote has been recorded" page. Does this mean that my vote has been counted?
No, this does not necessarily mean that your vote has been counted. The MSN online voting system will ensure that the information submitted in the vote is not from a fraudulent source before counting it as a valid vote.

Text Message (SMS) Voting

How do I vote via text message?
How to send a text message varies depending on the handset you use. Instructions for which numbers to send text messages to also varies by country. In the United States and Canada, wireless voters will be prompted to send the word VOTE to the short code relating to the rocker of choice because each rocker will have his or her own text number. However, text voting varies by country and the show gives the information needed to cast a valid vote. For more information on your specific country see the web sites below

How will I know if my vote has been counted / What will I get when I vote?
It will vary by country, however any votes received via text during the valid vote window per time zone will receive a confirmation message. In the United States and Australia, you will only receive one confirmation back no matter how many votes you send. In Canada, Iceland, New Zealand, Mexico, Columbia, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil and Asia you will receive a confirmation for each vote you send.

When I tried to vote, my handset said "Message not sent." Why?
Although the text messaging networks are designed to handle large volumes of votes, there may be times (particularly just after the show has aired) when they cannot handle every message as a result of network congestion. When this happens, "Message not sent" will appear on your handset. Please be patient and try again later.

Red Button Voting (AUSTRALIA ONLY)

How do I vote via Red Button?
Red Button voting is only available within Australia. Voting via Red Button is easy for those who have it available on their systems. Simply watch Rock Star: Supernova each week and you will see details about Red Button voting during the show. During active hours, simply press the Red Button on your remote control and you will be given a menu of rockers you can vote for (remember, you are voting for they ones you like most). You will be asked to confirm acceptance of the 55 cent (Australian) charge, and then your vote will count.

Red button voting is via a premium 1900 phone number. Some individual viewers may have chosen to block premium numbers from their home phone account, in these cases the vote will not go through and the viewer will receive an on screen error message. Please contact your telephone service provider to activate this service.

How much does it cost to vote via Red Button?
You will be charged at 55 cents (Australian) for each vote cast via Red Button voting.
